Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
Proverbs 13:12 (NKJV)
Recently I have found myself a little discouraged. Life can be, well, hard! Our circumstances, relationships, or finances may not always be what we desire. However, the one thing that remains and cannot be shaken is the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. In the middle of diverse circumstances and our human disappointments, He is the one thing that remains: unshakeable, solid, and immovable.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
This old hymn has been ringing in my spirit lately. Truly all other ground is sinking sand! But the good news is this: in the middle of the intense shaking – with politics, financial hardships, good being called evil and evil being called good – this one thing remains: Our Lord Jesus Christ! He promises to never leave us or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) He is our Hope, our Peace, our Portion. He alone can bring peace to our lives, despite the storms that may be raging. (Philippians 4:7)
As we meditate on the Lord and His Power, Love, and Greatness, He will begin to lift our spirits and renew our hope; bringing a true abiding hope that will not leave us disappointed. In Him, we truly have a delightful inheritance.
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
Psalm 16:5-6
